Thought for the Week - 7th February

Pastor Gareth Watkins

2 Corinthians 1: 8-9

“We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it.  In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead.

We are all going through difficult times at the moment, and sometimes on our spiritual walk we find ourselves in a place that is unbearable.

It can feel as though we are being crushed under the impossible weight of our trouble that we simply cannot cope with.

Paul, a greatly used man of God, was not immune to this battle, he knew the debilitating heaviness of the things he faced and in them he knew the weakness of his own human condition.

We read of many of God’s people going through desperate situations and facing overwhelming trials, and if it were not for them crying out to God, pleading from their heart for help, they would not have gotten through them. When Moses cried out over the bitter waters, God provided the miracle in the form of a piece of wood that turned the waters sweet.

How much more than that will the cross be victorious over in your life – Jesus Christ overcame all on the cross, if we put our confidence in Him, cry out from the depths of our struggle,

He will rescue us time and time again. He is the lover of your soul. When we turn to God through Christ, we turn to the creator of all, Almighty God against whom nothing will prevail.
