Thought for the Week - 14th February

“But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil.”
2 Corinthians 4:17
“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
What each of us is experiencing right now and throughout the world is temporary; the pains and ills, chaos and fears, are momentary compared to eternity in the truth that is our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
God spoke to His people throughout the ages and continues to do so, He asks us to listen to Him, turn to Him, and in doing so we can live free from fear and rest in His security no matter the storm.
Sadly, this world lives by its senses, people all around us desperately try to fill the void where peace and security should be. Frantically looking for safety in things, relationships, appearances, and many other false hopes that fade and crack under the slightest pressure, leaving the person unanchored, lost, and anxious.
The pandemic has certainly removed these crutches and people are struggling. We cannot provide safety and security for ourselves, and while some will seek to cling on to anything in an attempt to gain peace, others switch off from life completely, numb and hidden behind their self-built walls, void of light and love.
How terribly sad, this is no way for someone to live, as Christians we know there is so much more. We can rejoice that we have knowledge of the eternal, are anchored in Christ, firmly rooted in love, and able to weather all storms.
Continue to let God speak into your heart and dwell with Him where the temporal and eternal merge, a resting place in this turbulent world.

I felt such joy reading this weeks message. Whatever our circumstances we can look to God and be sure that we need not worry or be downcast or anxious about anything. We can be glad that we have the love of Christ and the promise of eternity with him.
