Thought for the Week - 29th March

Pastor Gareth Watkins

Jeremiah 5:26-31

26 “Among my people are wicked men
who lie in wait for victims like a hunter hiding in a blind.
They continually set traps
to catch people.
27 Like a cage filled with birds,
their homes are filled with evil plots.
And now they are great and rich.
28 They are fat and sleek,
and there is no limit to their wicked deeds.
They refuse to provide justice to orphans
and deny the rights of the poor.
29 Should I not punish them for this?” says the Lord.
“Should I not avenge myself against such a nation?
30 A horrible and shocking thing
has happened in this land—
31 the prophets give false prophecies,
and the priests rule with an iron hand.
Worse yet, my people like it that way!
But what will you do when the end comes?

Nothing Seems Good Week ll

We are currently in times where nothing seems good in the world around us, people are continuing to become ill, struggle financially, worry and fear for their lives and their loved ones. Does the above passage not describe the society that surrounds us, and even in the churches of our day? The church seems filled with wicked deeds, sin, deceit and false prophesy? During this time when all around us seems to become more out of control, we must remain steadfast in Christ.

‘’what will you do when the end comes?’’… Will you be steadfast, true and upright? Or will you be one of those described above, filled with deceit, disquiet and lacking.

We must remain united with Christ, casting off our sins again and again, continuing to follow Him as our Saviour no matter what comes in life for us. Only in Him can we be in peace that surpasses all understanding. Only in Him can we abide in true peace and victory during these very unsettled times.

We must not become undisciplined, nor allow the cares and troubles of the world to knock us off course where we will bear no fruit. You may be in a place where you have lost the peace you once had in Christ, if this is so, lay your sin before God, ask that you may win Christ Himself, ask that Christ would give you the victory again and again. ‘’What will you do when the end comes?’’… When your end comes? On the day of judgement you will be asked, ‘’What have you done with My Son?’’ How will you stand on that day?

Let us stand together as spiritually upright steadfast people, who know God’s purpose for our lives, because the day will come when in the end all that will matter is how you stand in Christ.

Amen.
