Thought for the Week - 2nd January

Pastor Gareth Watkins

Luke 1:46-47

Mary responded, “Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!

To all who read these thoughts of the week: I wish you the reader a very happy and blessed new year!

As believers, we have so much to be thankful for.

We have had over 20 different good news reports of how God moved amongst us during 2022. Many more are personal and won’t be shared here.

It was good news for us in 2022 that after 700 years of the prophet Isaiah prophesying the birth of Jesus, the event actually took place.

Isaiah 7:14

The Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’)

Yet it was Mary who had to face her fears and be obedient to the call and command of God.

God has not forgotten His promises made all those years ago through Isaiah. He has not forgotten His promises made to you either.

Mary had to face her fears and do what was right in the sight of God. When Mary did face her fears (which must have been many at that moment), there followed great joy in her life.

Luke 1:46-47

Mary responded, “Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!

The same will be for us in 2023 if we find the promises of God towards us, face our fears, act and watch His plans unfold in our lives.

God wants us to be a people who are full of Joy.

Amen!
