Thought for the Week - 3rd May

DEUTERONOMY 31: 8

“He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”

Much of the thread of our sermons recently has drawn on God’s will for us as Christians to grow. We are to grow in His ways and further not only our spiritual lives, but that of those around us also. We are not meant to stay as we are. Whilst some will struggle to see beyond their current state, blind to the call to come in further into the things of God, others, and particularly the naturally ambitious, can become bound and inactive through fear of failure. Fear such as this can be terribly crippling to spiritual growth and stop us before we have even begun.

This fear is one of self and not of God. In ourselves we can’t succeed in the works of God, and in self-reliance we will fail to achieve the spiritual life we may be aiming for. You may be thinking that you can’t achieve anything at all, gripped by ‘’I can’t do this, or I’m no good at that’’, well you’d be right, we cannot do these things ourselves, but God can. He sufficiently provides all that we need to succeed in the things that he calls us to do.

‘’His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness’’ (2Peter 1:3)

When you stop relying on your own confidence, and start to have confidence in the God who has called you by name, you will come to know the depth and abundance of his provision in all things as He carries you through. He will do it.

To add to our faith we must fight our fears and enemies by standing firm in the promises of God. Don’t let your fear rob you of all that God has for you, allow Him to lead you on and the outcome will be more than you can imagine.
