Thought for the Week - 4th October

Pastor Gareth Watkins

Psalm 27: 1-5

The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked advance against me to devour me,
it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.

Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.

One thing I ask from the Lordthis only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.

Although these words were written by David thousands of years ago, we should not forget that our God is exactly the same today!

Because of God’s light and salvation, today we can stand in God’s strength and rest in His sanctuary, just like David all those years ago.

Just as it was for David, we too serve a God that gives us strength… the strength to overcome our fears, and strength to overcome those who turn against us.  He is our strength!

And just as David faced his enemies, we too face people who come against us because we follow God.  But how wonderful is it to know that as it was for David, God continues to protect us and be our refuge.  He gives us sanctuary and perfect peace in times of trouble!

God has even blessed us with a place where we can partake in the holiness of God Himself.

Over the past few weeks, we have been a privileged and blessed people… a people who have seen our God in mighty action!  He has worked miracle upon miracle, releasing people from chains, delivering people into salvation and peace.  And yet there is more to come!

So brothers and sisters, do not rest, but go further into God.

See the loveliness of God and go onward into the light that David speaks of.
