Thought for the Week - 11th July

Pastor Gareth Watkins

Ephesians 1:3-4

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world,
that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love
Continuing on from last week’s theme, we heard a wonderful testimony on Sunday of the steadfast security that is found in Christ, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. Our bodies may breakdown, illnesses may come, we could lose our money, houses, jobs and loved ones, yet we can remain secure in God. He is sufficient.

We will all experience times in which we need to really press into Him and find Christ’s sufficiency for us to get through times of difficulty. In the bleakest and darkest valley, when we hold fast to the things of God, He will put a song in our heart, just as we heard our friend testify to.

‘’just as He chose us’’… God has chosen you and me. He wants us, and in His foreknowledge selected us before time began. He knew what would come to pass, and whose heart would hear His call and yield unto Him. To know that God who created the whole universe, knew me, and chose me, before the foundation of the world, gives me full security no matter the trials life brings. You and I are at the centre of God’s creation, counted among all the saints of old, and all yet to come, and this is what we need to think on when the seas are choppy and life is feels hard.

God wants us to feel secure, He is for us and not against us. When the world is in chaos, wars, famines, corruption and financial collapse, God wants us to be spiritually strong and find our rest in Him. When we are bombarded by things that would undermine us, rock our foundations, and sow all sorts of bad thoughts, feelings, and worthlessness into our minds, He wants to bless us with every spiritual blessing in Jesus Christ, that we may be ‘’holy and without blame before Him in love’’

God is always for us and not against us. He has not called us, nor chosen us to do something, just to leave us fail. He will provide all that we need to accomplish what we are meant to do. All things are in His hands, including you and me. Our Father who is all knowing, and always present, both inside and outside of time, knows His plans for us. In this knowledge why would we put our security in anything or anyone else?

We have been chosen with purpose and a plan. Hold onto this truth whatever you are going through today, God will be your security and His provision will be sufficient.

”For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38)
