Thought for the Week - 13th December

Pastor Gareth Watkins

2 Corinthians 2: 14 (NKJV)

“Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.”

Romans 14: 8

“For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.”

Christ always leads us into triumph, He is never defeated, lost or on the back foot. We read that Paul said, whatever happens along the road, as causalities there will be, we will go on to victory. Whether we live or die is a more prominent thought in these times, and for us as Christians it is crucial that our spiritual life goes on. If we don’t stay part of the body of Christ, we will be lost and die spiritually, but if we continue to stay connected to Christ as the head, He will lead us on triumphantly to the victory side.

‘’God who always leads us in triumph in Christ’’… If we remain in Christ, we will never be lost or vanquished by our own strength. If we continue on, faithful and bound as part of the body, we will always go on victoriously. Being victorious doesn’t mean that the enemy won’t come against us, or that our lives won’t have difficulties and hardships along the way. The battles will go on, just as we read about throughout the bible, but in them the victory was with God and likewise the victory is with God for us through Christ. Jesus Himself faced satan, He faced him in temptation, He faced him on the cross, and the He faced all the principalities of hell itself, but the victory was with Him. He was triumphant and is triumphant today.

If you find yourself at a crossroad of whether to follow Christ or go your own way, I urge you to consider carefully. There are many battles still to come and I encourage you to make sure that you are firmly bound to Christ. As Christians and a church, we are part of God’s army. We are not meant to take up a defensive position in battle, we don’t put on the armour of God, retreat into a comfortable place, and wait for it all to blow over. We are to go on in Christ triumphantly and gain ground.

Matthew 16: 18

‘”And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.”

Amen.
