Thought for the Week - 14th December

Pastor Diana Rutherford

Psalm 90:2

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever Thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God.

In our last Thought for the Week we read the verse ‘And she shall bring forth a Son.’ This verse today tells us that Christ was in existence long before Mary. I think it’s one of the facts that makes the coming of Christ so different from every other religion.

We are not just claiming that Jesus was a special baby, who had special powers, and claimed to be God. We believe that Jesus came from a world of light and joy, where His home was in the very heart of God. This is what makes the Christmas message so special to us, because God chose to send His light into our world of darkness.

Our world is still dark; men hating men, nations rising up against each other but how much darker it would have been if Christ had not left His home and come to show us the way to God. His world is perfect and He was perfect amongst us. Yes, we crucified Him, but not before He had made a huge impression on a small group of men who took His message of love and peace to a cruel world. They were even prepared to die for the truth they believed.

And so today, we have this very special message of hope, joy and peace given to us; heaven on earth, and more importantly heaven in our hearts.

Make this Christmas time extra special. Not only provide joy for your loved ones but for many who come across your path. Let something of the light and joy of heaven fill you as you choose to share the real meaning of Christmas with others.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory,
the glory as of the only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14
