Thought for the Week - 26th October
Pastor Diana RutherfordPsalm 12:7
You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked.
We always think that when we say someone is ‘quite needy’ they are a poor wee soul who often needs some tender loving care. We don’t like to think that we are needy and if someone described us like that we probably would feel quite offended! The truth, however, is that all of us are needy in the eyes of God; in need of His tender loving care; in need of His forgiveness and mercy. We tend to forget how much we need Him until some difficulty arises or some tragedy befalls us and then we reach out like little children to a loving parent.
We would do well to remember that we are needy all the time. In need and dependant upon, the very wonderful love of God. As we learn to lean on Him and trust His presence and word in our lives then we learn to rely upon Him and we grow in His strength and love.
To me, the opposite of needy is thriving. If you look at some of the wonderful promises in the Bible you discover this is exactly what Christ Jesus wants for you.
John 15:11 – ‘I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.’
Philippians 4:7 – ‘And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’
Psalm 103:17 – ‘But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear Him.’
Therefore if you and I want to be a strong, overflowing, vibrant Christian then recognise your need and dependence on God. Don’t even think for one moment that you can cope on your own! Learn to trust and lean upon Him and from His abundant supply will come everlasting life to you.
