Thought for the Week - 29th November

Pastor Gareth Watkins

Colossians 2: 18-19 (NKJV)

‘’Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.’’

John 16: 12-15

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.”

We come together as individuals but are a part of a much bigger picture, we are part of the body of Christ and He is the Head. We aren’t just individuals who want to get together, we are called by God to come together as a body, a people, and within it have a function. In these days of fear and troubles, hold fast to the Head, don’t give up as if God is no longer with us, hold fast to the Lord your God who called you by name to be part of the body which is nourished and knit together in Christ. We as Christians are not meant to be wondering around aimlessly, God ordained us to be part of this body. ‘’And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all’’ (Ephesians 1:22-23)

‘’Let no one cheat you of your reward’’… Do not be cheated into losing contact with Christ, hold on to Him. During these times He has promised to get you through by the power of the Holy Spirit. Sadly, I’m seeing people with all sorts of anxieties, mental fatigue, hopelessness, and for some it is as if their whole existence is being undermined. We must remain in contact with Christ and not be cheated into losing that connection with Him. Do not allow any circumstance, thing or illness, to pull you away from Him.

Jesus Christ is the head and through Him we are given a helper, the Holy Spirit. When we are connected, He guides us, comforts us, leads us, and enables us to live in and navigate these days in which difficulties come, and from which we are not immune. He will show us the way through where there is no way.

Are you connected to the Head today? Are you feeling the structure and support of the Holy Spirit? If you are a follower of Christ, these things are promised to you as declared by God. Don’t be cheated of them, hold fast, Christ will get you through.

Amen
