Thought for the Week - 30th April

Pastor Gareth Watkins

Leviticus 19:2

Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them: “You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy”.

Tosacanini, the great conductor, finished conducting a wonderful performance of a famous Beethoven symphony. The audience rose to its feet with rapturous applause, and shouted and clapped its delight. Tosacanini turned to them and shouted “you are nothing! I am nothing! Beethoven is everything!”

Is this how you are with your Christian life? We are nothing… God is everything?

We worship, we sing, we pray, we give of our time and money, we break bread… yet at the centre of it all it is God. It is God alone who is everything. It’s the applause of God that matters.

In Leviticus 19:2 it says ”you shall be Holy for I am Holy”..

God wants us to be Holy. He created us to be Holy, and through Christ we are made Holy. We borrow His holiness because all of us have sinned and fallen short.

When God looks on us what does He see? Does He see us in our sin or does He see Jesus and His holiness inside of us?

How are you impacted by the holiness of God?

Have you had a personal encounter with the Holiness of God ?

We each need this experience. We each need an encounter with the Holiness of God.

Here we have no rights except in Christ as we borrow His righteousness, His holiness to come before a Holy God. We have fallen short, yet in Christ we are made Holy to God; we are made acceptable to Him. We can come into His Holy presence.

Amen
