Thought for the Week - 24th July

1 Corinthians 9: 24-27

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize?
Run in such a way that you may obtain it.
And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things.
Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.
Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty.
Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.
But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

In this passage, Paul compares his Christian walk to running a race.  It’s a race run with certainty and for the purpose of winning the prize.  That’s the way we are meant to walk our Christian walk – with certainty.

Unfortunately, with life, we can often go into things with a great uncertainty, whether it’s due to doubt or fears etc.  However, God gives us a key for all these things!  He has given us a key of certainty!

In this passage Paul gives us a key how to succeed in life.  He knows he can fail and fall from grace, but he shows us that we need to subdue our body… and bring it into subjection under God.  Bringing our body, mind, emotions and desires under subjection under God is the key!  In every aspect of our lives, the key is bringing that aspect under subjection to God; our jobs, marriages, relationships etc.  We need to bring them all under the will and knowledge of God.

Do you have that key?

When you bring something under the discipline of God, you will find that you can do it yourself.  As you bring these things under God, He will give you the answer and empower you to go through things.  Paul found it.  You can find it!  God can give you great anointing to change!  First you subject yourself, and then comes the action of God. The miracle of God comes after the subjection unto the things of God.

If you want a successful, home, job, whatever it is God showing you should be achieving, you need to bring that aspect under God.  That’s the key!  God has shown you the key through Paul.

God is good!  He has given us the equipment to do what we need to do!

Do you know where you going in God under all these things?

The great challenges of life will come, but with Christ you can step outside the boat, like Peter did when he walked on water with Jesus.  Peter only sank when he looked to the natural!  We can do the same sometimes.  Either we don’t have enough faith to get out of the boat, or when we do, we don’t stay there long enough!

Be encouraged to keep moving forward!  Not in a lost condition, but as someone who brings their life into subjection under God and who knows they’ll be successful in every aspect they bring under God.  Go for that imperishable crown… that which lays ahead of you for eternity.  This is a heading and direction that God has given you the keys to achieve!

Step on your path in faith and find the anointing of God.  Then He will bring the miracles.  Paul had the same issues, but he found the key.

2 Corinthians 6: 4-7
But in all things we commend ourselves as ministers of God:
in much patience, in tribulations, in needs, in distresses,
in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in fastings;
by purity, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness,
by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love,
by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness
on the right hand and on the left

In this passage Paul almost gives us a tick box of a Christian’s make up!  If we’re bringing our life into subjection, are we these things?  Are we patient for example?  Are we someone who goes through much troubles, and are they brought under God?  Are we working at things of God?  These things all need to be brought under subjection under God.  If there’s something that causing you sleeplessness, bring it under God!  If you haven’t got these things, then you haven’t brought them under God.

Fasting is one of the biggest keys, along with praying, in the Bible.  Barriers break down, strongholds are broken and a direction in your life is found.

We need to be successfully moving, living and working in God!  Are you walking in purity, love, truth, are you clothed in the armour of God?  How have you built each section of your life?  Are they all under God?

The athlete that Paul refers to in the first passage has a strict regime in terms of how he uses his time, how he goes about his affairs and even what he eats!  He has it all laid out.  That’s how we need to be with the things of God… under the subjection of God.  That’s when you see things change!  There’s still more to go… there’s still more to press into.

Be encouraged!  This imperishable crown is there for you!  It was put there for you by God, Christ made a way for you to get it, and the Holy Spirit gives you the power to achieve it!  God has given us the key!
